The Ficus Elastica Tineke, better known as the Indian rubber tree, is a striking houseplant with an interesting past. Until the 20th century, this plant was used as a major source for rubber production. The Tineke is a variegated variety within the large Ficus family, which has more than 1,000 species - often so diverse that you don't immediately see that they are related. Most Ficus species originate in tropical Asia, where they grow into impressive trees.

Ficus Tineke is an easy houseplant in terms of maintenance, although it can be somewhat sensitive to changes in its environment. Does the plant grow crooked to one side? If so, don't turn it all at once, but a little each day, so it can get used to it calmly. Major changes can cause it to drop leaves. Watering once a week helps to keep the leaves healthy and dust-free - and at the same time prevents pests from settling in
