The right location for your plant: Crucial for health and growth

Where you place your plant is crucial for its health and growth. Each plant has unique light and moisture requirements. By choosing the right location, you give your plant the best chance to flourish. Know where your plant feels most comfortable to ensure optimal growth and vitality.

Position in full sun

Plants that need a lot of direct sunlight are best placed near a south, west or east-facing window. Make sure they are no further than two metres from the window, because the light intensity decreases considerably beyond that. Plants that require a position in full sun need at least five hours of sunlight a day. Below are some of our top plants that love sunlight.

Alocasia

Alocasia, also known as Elephant's Ear, is a tropical plant with impressively large leaves. This plant brings an exotic atmosphere to any room. The Alocasia originates from India, where it is used to a lot of sunlight. Therefore, give this plant a location with plenty of direct sunlight to reach its full potential. Keep in mind that the Alocasia needs a little more attention than the average houseplant, especially when it comes to water. However, make sure not to overwater to avoid root rot.

Banana plant

The sturdy banana plant stands out for its large, green leaves with a striking dark purple pattern. This plant consists of 80% water and therefore has a high water requirement. The leaves can even repel water, leading to drops at the tips of the leaves. A position in full sun and regular care will ensure that the banana plant does well. This plant is also safe for pets and has an air-purifying effect, making it a perfect addition to your interiors.

Half-shade location

Plants that prefer semi-shade should ideally be placed two to three metres from the window. Exceptions are north-facing windows, where you don't need to keep a distance. Plants in this category need three to five hours of sunlight a day for optimal growth. Below are some of our favourite semi-shade houseplants.

Hanging plant Peperomia Pepperspot

This trendy hanging plant is a real eye-catcher in any interior! Perfect for placing on a cabinet or hanging from the ceiling. The Peperomia Pepperspot has small leaves but can grow up to 30 cm. This plant is ideal for people with less green fingers, as it requires little care. Place it in a semi-shaded spot and water it once a week. It can be that simple!

Orchid

The Orchid is a popular flowering houseplant and comes in many varieties. The Phalaenopsis family, to which the Orchid belongs, is non-toxic and therefore safe for children and pets. This plant needs weekly watering, but be careful of both overwatering and too bright sunlight. A position in semi-shade is perfect for this beautiful plant, which will surprise you with its flowers.

Position in normal daylight

Many houseplants do well in normal daylight. This means that they don't need a specific distance from a window, but neither should they be in direct sunlight. Let these plants get used to their position slowly and adjust if necessary.

Philodendron

Known for its striking leaves, this houseplant is native to rainforests, where it climbs trees and rocks. The Philodendron is easy to care for and thrives well in normal daylight, but avoid bright sunlight. Keep the soil moist, but make sure it doesn't stay too wet to avoid root rot.

Shade location

At Green-Bubble, we also offer a wide selection of shade plants. These plants thrive best in shady environments and need only low light intensity. Place them at least three metres away from a window. Shade plants need less than three hours of light a day.

Monstera

The Monstera , also known as Hole Plant, is a shade plant and an excellent air purifier. This tropical plant is easy to care for and likes constant slightly moist soil. The Monstera does well in both shady spots and locations with a little more daylight, as long as it is not in direct sunlight.

Epipremnum Amplissimum

The Epipremnum Amplissimum is native to the tropical forests of Southeast Asia, where it grows in the shade. As a houseplant, it can also be used as a hanging plant. This versatile plant needs plenty of moisture, so make sure the potting soil is always kept moist, but not wet. Epipremnum Amplissimum thrives in both shade and a little more daylight and needs a constant supply of water.
