Whether you want to create a sunny border, a shady corner or a playful flower garden, there is always a suitable ground cover for you. From flowering varieties to evergreen plants, ground covers are a super addition to your garden.
Why choose ground covers?
1. Weed repellent. Because ground covers completely cover the soil, weeds hardly have a chance to grow. This saves you a lot of time and effort in maintaining your garden!
2. Moisture retention and soil improvement. The leaves of ground covers protect the soil from drying out and help retain moisture longer. This ensures a healthy soil structure and prevents rainwater from evaporating too quickly.
3. Erosion control. On slopes or places where the soil washes away quickly, ground covers help keep the soil in place. This prevents bare spots and soil erosion.
4. Less maintenance. Unlike individual plants that require a lot of care, ground covers are generally low-maintenance. Once well rooted, they require little attention.
5. Biodiversity and ecological value. Many ground covers attract beneficial insects such as bees and butterflies, and provide hiding places for small animals. So you help create a healthy garden full of life!

How to plant and care for ground covers?
Choosing the right spot
Look carefully at the location: some ground covers like full sun (like lavender), while others thrive in the shade (like Pachysandra).
Determine the planting distance
To get a nice dense carpet, it is important to plant ground covers in groups with the right distance between them. On average, plant 5 to 10 plants per square metre, depending on the species.
Preparing the soil
Loosen the soil well and remove weeds before planting. If necessary, add compost for a nutritious start.
Water and feed
In the first weeks after planting, regular watering is important, especially during dry periods. Later, most ground covers need little extra care.
Pruning and maintenance
Some species bloom longer if you prune them occasionally. Evergreen ground covers require even less maintenance.
