The Ficus Elastica Tineke, also known as the Indian Rubber Tree, used to be an important source of rubber. This plant is part of the Ficus family, which has more than 1,000 different species. Although they are related, you don't always immediately see that they belong to the same family. Most Ficus species originate from tropical Asia.

Ficus Tineke is an easy houseplant, but it is sensitive to changes in its environment. If the plant grows to one side, move it gradually by turning it a little daily so that it does not startle all at once. Major changes can cause the plant to lose leaves. A weekly spray is ideal for Ficus; it keeps the leaves dust-free and helps prevent pests.
