Product Description
The Tulip bulbs Striped Crown are bulbs of tulips with flamed and striped flowers in various colours. No two flowers are exactly alike, which makes them special to look at up close. They grow to around 40 to 50 centimetres and stand on sturdy stems.
The bulbs are size 11/12 and each produce one generous flower. They come into their own in a pot or planter by the patio, where you can see the markings up close, but also in the border and as cut flowers. With 12 bulbs you fill a pot of about 30 centimetres, with 24 bulbs a planter or a spot in the border. With 48 or 96 bulbs you can plant a whole bed; allow 50 to 70 bulbs per square metre. Combine them with plain tulip bulbs in one of the colours from the flames, so the markings stand out even more. You will find more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.
When should you plant the Tulip bulbs Striped Crown?
The best time to plant the Tulip bulbs Striped Crown is from mid-October to the end of November, once the soil has cooled to below 10 °C. The bulbs will then still form roots before winter without sprouting too early. As long as the ground is not frozen, you can plant until December. The bulbs need the winter cold to flower in April and May, so do not plant them in spring.
When do the Tulip bulbs Striped Crown flower?
The Tulip bulbs Striped Crown flower later in the tulip season, from April into May. Each flower stays beautiful for about two to three weeks. In a pot in a warm spot they often flower a week earlier, after a cold spring a little later. If you let the foliage die back after flowering, they can return the following spring, although the flowers usually become smaller after a few years.
Care and tips Tulip bulbs Striped Crown
Plant the bulbs pointed end up, about 12 to 15 centimetres deep and 8 to 10 centimetres apart. Tulips like well-drained soil; if your garden stays wet, mix some sand into the soil. In a pot or planter, give them a drainage layer of gravel or clay pebbles; among our outdoor pots and baskets you will find a suitable model. After flowering, cut off the spent flower and leave the foliage until it turns yellow, so the bulb stores food for next year. A little bulb fertiliser in early spring is enough.
Water needs of the Tulip bulbs Striped Crown
In open ground the bulbs need little water. Only water after planting if the autumn is very dry. In a pot, water about once a week in spring as soon as the leaves appear. Never leave water standing in the saucer, because bulbs in wet soil will rot.
Light needs of the Tulip bulbs Striped Crown
Give them a sunny spot with at least six hours of sun a day. In full sun the stems stay strong and the flowers get their best colour. In partial shade they flower too, but with slightly longer stems and less abundantly.
Are the Tulip bulbs Striped Crown toxic?
The Tulip bulbs Striped Crown are mildly toxic if ingested, especially the bulb itself. Keep them out of reach of pets and young children. The sap can irritate sensitive skin, so wear garden gloves when planting.
How will my Tulip bulbs Striped Crown be shipped?
Your bulbs are carefully packed and shipped. That way they arrive safely and fresh from the grower.
