Product Description

The Daffodil bulbs Double mix are bulbs of double daffodils in soft yellow, creamy white and lively combinations of these colours. The flowers have several layers of petals, which makes them look full and soft, quite different from the familiar trumpet daffodil. At a height of about 35 to 40 centimetres they fit almost anywhere in the garden. They are fully hardy.

The bulbs are size 10/12, the trusted standard size for these daffodils. That means you get plenty of bulbs for your money and can plant generously: in the border, in pots or loosely in the grass, where they naturalise. With 30 bulbs you make a few large pots or a striking group by the patio. With 60 bulbs you fill a strip along the path or the front of the border. The 120 or 240 bulbs are meant for those who want to go big, such as a stretch of lawn, a verge or an entire bed; allow 30 to 50 bulbs per square metre. If you want more variety in shape and flowering time, add other daffodil bulbs. You will find more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.

When should you plant the Daffodil bulbs Double mix?

You plant the Daffodil bulbs Double mix in autumn, from mid-October to the end of November. Wait until the soil is cooler than 10 °C; the bulbs then root without sprouting too early. In a mild winter you can continue into December, as long as the ground is not frozen. The bulbs need a cold period to flower well, which is why we advise against spring planting.

When do the Daffodil bulbs Double mix flower?

The Daffodil bulbs Double mix flower in March and April. Each flower stays beautiful for about two weeks. In pots on a sunny patio flowering starts a little earlier, while a cold spring can delay everything by a week or two. The double flowers are also suitable for cutting; after cutting, stand them in water on their own for a night before adding them to other flowers. In grass, the clumps get fuller year after year.

Care and tips Daffodil bulbs Double mix

Set the bulbs about 12 centimetres deep, pointed end up and about 8 to 10 centimetres apart. Well-drained soil prevents rot. In pots a bottom layer of clay pebbles ensures drainage; among our outdoor pots and baskets you will find pots in all sizes. After flowering, only remove the faded flowers. Leave the foliage until it yellows; in the lawn, only mow once it has died back. Feeding is rarely needed in open ground; give pots a little bulb fertiliser in spring.

Water needs of the Daffodil bulbs Double mix

Daffodils in the garden usually get enough from the rain. If autumn stays dry for a long time, give them a good can of water after planting. Pots dry out faster; water them about weekly in spring as soon as you see green. Too much moisture does more harm than too little, so do not leave water in the saucer.

Light needs of the Daffodil bulbs Double mix

A sunny spot is ideal: the more sun, the richer the flowering. They also flower in the light shade under deciduous trees, because plenty of light still comes through there in early spring.

Are the Daffodil bulbs Double mix toxic?

The Daffodil bulbs Double mix are toxic if ingested, especially the bulb. Plant them out of reach of pets and young children. Garden gloves are sensible when planting and cutting, as the sap can irritate the skin.

How will my Daffodil bulbs Double mix be shipped?

Your bulbs are carefully packed and shipped. That way they arrive safely and fresh from the grower.
