Product Description

The Tulip bulbs Pastel mix XL bulbs combine four soft pastel shades in one pack: pink, lilac, yellow and apricot. They are classic tulips with flawless, cup-shaped flowers on straight stems of around 40 centimetres.

This mix has a bulb size of up to 15 cm in circumference, on average larger than the standard size 11/12. With 35 bulbs you fill a pot of about 50 centimetres, with 70 bulbs a group of just over a square metre in the border. With 140 or 280 bulbs you can plant beds or a long edge along the path; allow 50 to 70 bulbs per square metre. Feel free to cut a bunch for indoors, as the cup-shaped flowers make a real impression in a vase. Other tulip bulbs in white or cream provide a calm backdrop. You will find more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.

When should you plant the Tulip bulbs Pastel mix XL bulbs?

The planting season for the Tulip bulbs Pastel mix XL bulbs runs from mid-October to the end of November. During this period the soil temperature drops below 10 °C: warm enough to root, cold enough not to sprout too early. Planting in December is still possible, provided the ground is not frozen. Skip spring, because tulips will not flower without winter cold.

When do the Tulip bulbs Pastel mix XL bulbs flower?

You can expect the Tulip bulbs Pastel mix XL bulbs to be in flower in March and April. A flower stays beautiful in the garden for about two to three weeks. Pots in a warm, sheltered spot often flower a little earlier, while a cold spring makes everything a bit later. Let the foliage die back after flowering and the bulbs will flower again next year, although the flowers are often somewhat smaller.

Care and tips Tulip bulbs Pastel mix XL bulbs

A planting depth of 12 to 15 centimetres is ideal for these bulbs, with 10 centimetres between them so the flowers can unfold properly. Choose a spot with loose, well-drained soil and mix some sand into heavy ground. In a pot, a drainage hole and a layer of gravel keep their feet dry; you will find suitable models among our outdoor pots and baskets. After flowering, only cut off the flower heads and leave the foliage until it changes colour. Scattering some bulb fertiliser in autumn or early spring is more than enough.

Water needs of the Tulip bulbs Pastel mix XL bulbs

After planting, extra water is only needed if the autumn is dry; in open ground the rain does the rest. Bulbs in pots need more attention in spring: water as soon as the top of the compost is dry, usually once a week. Never let the soil become waterlogged.

Light needs of the Tulip bulbs Pastel mix XL bulbs

Choose a sunny spot where the tulips get at least six hours of light a day. That keeps the stems short and strong and lets the flowers colour up well. In partial shade the stems stretch towards the light and topple over more easily.

Are the Tulip bulbs Pastel mix XL bulbs toxic?

The Tulip bulbs Pastel mix XL bulbs are mildly toxic if ingested, especially the bulbs. So keep them out of reach of pets and young children. Wear gloves when planting if you have sensitive skin, as the sap can cause irritation.

How will my Tulip bulbs Pastel mix XL bulbs be shipped?

Your bulbs are carefully packed and shipped. That way they arrive safely and fresh from the grower.
