Product Description
The Tulip bulbs Blueberry mix are bulbs of a tulip blend in deep purple, soft lilac and creamy white. The tulips grow to about 40 to 50 centimetres tall and are also suitable as cut flowers for the vase.
The bulbs are size 11/12 and each produce one well-formed flower. The mix looks lovely in the border and in pots and containers, and in a sunny spot you can also let the bulbs naturalise in the lawn. You can choose from eight quantities, from 12 to 280 bulbs. With 12 bulbs you fill a pot of about 35 centimetres, with 24 or 35 bulbs a large container or a group in the border. With 48 or 70 bulbs you plant roughly one square metre, with 96 or 140 bulbs a bed of two square metres and with 280 bulbs a strip or bed of four to five square metres; allow 50 to 70 bulbs per square metre. Combine them with other tulip bulbs, for example a plain white or purple variety that repeats the colours of the mix. You will find more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.
When should you plant the Tulip bulbs Blueberry mix?
The right moment to plant the Tulip bulbs Blueberry mix is between mid-October and the end of November. The soil is then colder than 10 °C, so the bulbs root without already producing leaves. If it is mild and not freezing, you can plant into December. Tulips need a cold winter to form their flowers, so planting in spring makes no sense.
When do the Tulip bulbs Blueberry mix flower?
The Tulip bulbs Blueberry mix flower in March and April. Each flower stays beautiful for two to three weeks. In pots against a warm wall they flower earlier, after a cold spring later. Let the foliage die back after flowering and the bulbs will flower again the following spring.
Care and tips Tulip bulbs Blueberry mix
Set the bulbs 12 to 15 centimetres deep, about three times their own height, pointed end up and 8 to 10 centimetres apart. A light, well-drained soil is ideal; on heavy clay a handful of sand or coarse grit in the planting hole helps. Pots get a drainage layer first; among our outdoor pots and baskets there is sure to be a suitable one. After flowering, cut off the seed heads and leave the foliage until it has discoloured, so the bulb can recharge. A little bulb fertiliser in autumn or as soon as the leaves appear is sufficient.
Water needs of the Tulip bulbs Blueberry mix
Bulbs in open ground hardly need watering. Only in an exceptionally dry autumn do you give them a good can of water after planting. For bulbs in pots, check the compost regularly in spring and water about once a week as soon as the leaves appear. Wet feet are fatal, so pour away any excess water from the saucer.
Light needs of the Tulip bulbs Blueberry mix
The mix flowers best in full sun, with at least six hours of direct light a day. There the stems stay sturdy and the purple and lilac really come into their own. In partial shade they flower too, but the stems stretch towards the light and the flowers turn out smaller.
Are the Tulip bulbs Blueberry mix toxic?
The Tulip bulbs Blueberry mix are mildly toxic if ingested, particularly the bulb. Store and plant them out of reach of pets and young children. People with sensitive skin may be bothered by the sap; garden gloves prevent this.
How will my Tulip bulbs Blueberry mix be shipped?
Your bulbs are carefully packed and shipped. That way they arrive safely and fresh from the grower.
