Product Description

The Crocus bulbs Blue are bulbs of crocuses with cup-shaped flowers in a clear, even blue. They grow to around 8 to 10 centimetres tall and are among the first flowers of the year. Crocuses are hardy and strong: they return every spring and become more numerous year after year.

The corms are size 7/8 and each produce two or more flowers. They are made for naturalising in the lawn, but look just as good in a pot on the patio, along a path or at the front of the border. With 30 corms you fill a pot or a small spot by the front door, with 60 a strip along the drive. With 120 or 240 corms you turn a good stretch of lawn blue; allow 100 to 150 per square metre. For a blue and white or blue and yellow effect, combine them with other crocus bulbs in white or yellow. You will find more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.

When should you plant the Crocus bulbs Blue?

The best time to plant the Crocus bulbs Blue is between mid-October and the end of November, when the soil temperature drops below 10 °C. The corms then still root in before winter sets in. If it is not freezing, December is fine too. A cold period is needed for flowering, so do not save them until spring.

When do the Crocus bulbs Blue flower?

The Crocus bulbs Blue flower from February to April, depending on the winter: after a mild January they appear early, after a long frost later. Each flower stays beautiful for a little over a week, and because one corm produces several flowers, a group gives colour for about two to three weeks. In sunshine the flowers open wide; in cloudy weather and at night they close. In grass they spread through offsets and seed.

Care and tips Crocus bulbs Blue

Plant the corms about 7 to 8 centimetres deep, two to three times their height, pointed end up and 5 centimetres apart. In the lawn, feel free to scatter a handful at a time and plant them where they land; with a bulb planter or narrow trowel this is quick work. Any well-drained soil is suitable. In a pot, a drainage hole with gravel or clay pebbles above it is important; look for a suitable one among our outdoor pots and baskets. Only mow once the leaves have yellowed, about five to six weeks after flowering, so the corms can recharge. A little bulb fertiliser in autumn encourages them to spread.

Water needs of the Crocus bulbs Blue

In the garden the rain takes care of watering; only after planting in a very dry autumn do you give them a can of water. In a pot or planter, keep the soil slightly moist from the moment the first tips appear. Excess water must be able to drain away, because crocuses do not tolerate wet feet.

Light needs of the Crocus bulbs Blue

The Crocus bulbs Blue grow best in full sun. There the flowers open completely and you can see the orange heart. Under deciduous trees they also do well, because plenty of light still falls through the bare branches in February and March.

Are the Crocus bulbs Blue toxic?

The Crocus bulbs Blue are mildly toxic if ingested, especially the corms. Keep them out of reach of pets and young children. If you have sensitive skin, wear gloves when planting.

How will my Crocus bulbs Blue be shipped?

Your bulbs are carefully packed and shipped. That way they arrive safely and fresh from the grower.
