Product Description
The Fargesia Nitida is a clump-forming bamboo that stays green all year. This value pack contains ten plants of 170 cm, enough for a fully-fledged bamboo hedge. The leaves move gently in the wind. This variety does not spread and grows neatly in clumps. So you do not have to worry about it creeping under the fence into your neighbours' garden.
With ten plants you can create a hedge of roughly three to five metres. The exact length depends on how closely you plant. Along the property line or between two gardens, you get a green boundary in one go. You can also dress up a long, bare wall with it. If you have less space, the pack with 5 plants will do. Care and tips for the 10 x Fargesia Nitida bamboo - 170 cm
With a longer hedge, good preparation pays off. Dig a trench along the full length, remove weeds and roots and mix humus-rich, moisture-retaining soil or compost into the ground. Plant about two to three plants per running metre. If you want a dense screen quickly, plant three per metre or stagger the plants slightly in a zigzag. With two per metre each plant gets more room and the hedge will eventually be just as full, but it takes a little longer.
The Fargesia Nitida is hardy down to about -25 °C and easy to look after. Give the hedge an organic fertiliser every spring, such as Pokon Organic Garden Fertiliser, so all ten plants put on equally vigorous growth. In spring, cut old or damaged canes back to ground level and trim stray canes on the sides for a neat line. In severe frost the leaves may curl up; they recover by themselves.

Bamboo prefers soil that stays slightly moist. In summer, water about twice a week, and more often in hot, dry weather. Curling leaves are a sign of thirst. With ten plants, a soaker hose or a garden hose with a sprinkler is a real time-saver, especially in the first year. In winter it needs very little water.
