This wonderful Beaucarnea multi-stem originates from South America, where it can grow up to 5 metres tall in the wild. Don't worry, in your living room the Beaucarnea will (luckily) grow a fair bit slower.

This sturdy houseplant is also known as the elephant's foot. It owes that nickname to its large trunk, which looks just like an elephant's foot. Besides its unique look, the thick trunk is also very handy for the plant: this is where the Beaucarnea stores its water, so it effectively has its own reservoir. That means you don't need to water it often and it can go a long time without. Handy!
