Care & tips for the Ficus Lyrata

Happily, the Ficus Lyrata isn't a difficult plant to care for. It is sensitive to a change of scene, though, so we'd recommend not moving it around too often. Is it growing towards one side? Turn it a little every day without shifting its spot. That way every side of the Ficus gets the same amount of light on its leaves. In the summer months you can give the Ficus a little extra plant food for some added nutrients.

How much water does the Ficus Lyrata need?

The soil of the Ficus Lyrata should stay lightly moist at all times. In the beginning we'd recommend giving it small amounts of water several times rather than one big drink all at once. That way you avoid a surplus of water the plant can't take up. In summer its water needs are often higher, because it uses more moisture then. A regular misting of the leaves is something the Ficus really appreciates. Has your plant been repotted? Then always use a moisture meter!

The Ficus Lyrata does love a good bit of sunlight. It actually needs it to stay healthy and looking its best. Put it as close to a window as you can. If the Ficus produces little new leaf, that's often a sign it isn't getting enough sun.
