Product description
The Calathea Maui Queen is, as her name suggests, a real queen in purifying the air. The leaves are green and have a light green leaf marking along the seams, which gives the plant a unique and beautiful appearance.
The Calathea Maui Queen is also known as the 'shadow plant'. This is because the Calathea grows in the shadow of large plants and trees in nature and therefore cannot tolerate too much (direct) sunlight. When the sun goes down the Calathea folds its leaves upwards. Because this looks like a hand that is praying, a second nickname for the Calathea is 'the prayer plant'. In the early morning light the plant will unfold itself again and show its beautiful leaf pattern to you.
Care & tips Calathea Maui Queen - 35cm
The Calathea Maui Queen is not difficult to take care of. However, the Calathea Maui Queen does need to be placed in a shady spot. Like all Calathea's, the Maui Queen can't stand much sunlight. Make sure that you know about the right care so that you can enjoy your Queen for a long time to come.
Water requirements for Calathea Maui Queen - 35cm
Make sure the soil of your Calathea Maui Queen is always slightly moist, but be careful not to overwater your plant. Too much water can cause it to accumulate at the bottom of the pot near the roots, which can lead to root rot. Root rot can mean the end of the plant and of course this is the last thing you want. For this reason we advise you to feel deep into the soil with two fingers before every watering to determine whether the Calathea needs some water again. If it is dry here, the plant can be watered. If the soil is still wet from the previous watering, we advise you to wait with watering.
It is also recommended to spray the leaves with water once a week to keep the humidity high.
Light requirements for Calathea Maui Queen - 35cm
The Calathea Maui Queen originally grows in the tropics of South America and the Amazon region. Here the plant grows up in the shadow of larger plants and tall trees. For this reason, the plant prefers a shady spot in your home and does not tolerate direct sunlight well. So pay attention to this when you are choosing a place for the plant. In a shady spot, the leaves will remain at their best and the markings will be most visible. The plant can also survive well in normal daylight, but make sure that the Calathea Maui Queen does not receive too much light. When the Calathea is placed in too much light, it will show this by curling its leaves and becoming crunchy.
Is the Calathea Maui Queen -35cm poisonous?
No, fortunately the Calathea Maui Queen is not poisonous for children and pets.
