Product description
The Calathea Elgergrass, also known as Calathea Rufibarba, is a beautiful member of the Marantaceae family. The Calathea Elgergrass is characterised by its many leaves, which give the plant a full shape. The leaves turn dark green to light green, are long and have serrated edges. As the Calathea closes its leaves in the evening, the burgundy red undersides appear.
Originally the Calathea Elgergrass comes from the tropical rainforests of South America but that does not stop the plant from having a Tropical party in your living room. How beautiful it will look with its wild appearance and cheerful dances in the evening. The Calathea is known for the fact that it folds its leaves up at night. Because this reminds one of a praying hand, the Calathea is also called the 'Prayer Plant'.
Care & tips Calathea Elgergrass - 35cm
Calatheas are generally known as easy- care plants. The Calathea Elgergrass is not difficult to look after either. Provide a good location and the right amount of water and the Calathea will soon do well in your home.
Water requirements for Calathea Elgergrass - 35cm
The soil of the Calathea Elgergrass may always remain slightly moist. Make sure, however, that you do not over-water the plant. Too much water can cause it to accumulate at the bottom of the pot near the roots, which can cause root rot. Root rot can cause your Calathea to die, which would be real shame.
We advise you to feel deep into the soil with two fingers before every watering to determine whether the Calathea needs some water again. If it is dry, the plant can be watered. If the soil is still wet from the previous watering, we advise you to wait with watering.
Light requirements for Calathea Elgergrass - 35cm
A second nickname for the Calathea is the 'shadow plant'. Because the Calathea Elgergrass grows up in the shade of taller plants and trees in the tropics, it has a poor tolerance for direct sunlight. Place the Calathea Elgergrass in a spot in the shade or in a spot in normal daylight with shadow during the day. In this spot, the Calathea will look its best and stay its best.
Is the Calathea Elgergrass - 35cm poisonous?
No, like most Calathea species, the Elgergrass is not poisonous to children or pets.
