The Trachycarpus palm is known for its snapped leaves and bumps created by the windy conditions along the Spanish coast. This precaution protects the palm from strong winds, allowing it to retain its stems.

Originally from the Himalayan Mountains, Trachycarpus is a hardy outdoor plant that can survive well in our outdoors. In the Netherlands it is also called the Hempalm or Hand Palm and the plant belongs to the Aracaceae family.

The Trachycarpus is a sunbather that needs a lot of light to stay healthy, but as a result is also a thirsty plant. In the summer months you can stimulate its growth by giving it extra nutrition. Use palm food and always follow the recommended amount.

Water Needs Trachycarpus - 350cm

The Trachycarpus is a thirsty plant, especially in summer, and needs daily watering. Make sure the soil does not dry out, but be careful not to overwater. Too much water can cause brown or black leaf tips. In this case, adjust the watering by giving less. In winter, the soil may dry out slightly between waterings, as the palm uses less water due to limited sunlight.

Light requirements Trachycarpus - 350cm

The Trachycarpus needs the most sun and can stand outside in direct sunlight. Choose a spot out of the wind and draft to avoid damage to the leaves. This hardy palm will survive temperatures down to -18°C, but we recommend bringing it inside or protecting it with a winter cover in such cold conditions
