Care & tips Coffee plant
The coffee plant also known as Coffea Arabica originates from Ethiopia and belongs to the plant family Rubiaceae. The coffee plant has 60 different species! If you have enough patience and give this houseplant a lot of love and attention, you will get coffee beans in return. You can then pick them, dry them, roast them, grind them and voilà your own coffee! How cool is that?
The care of the coffee plant is similar to that of the Ficus plants, it is an easy plant to take care of.
Water requirements Coffee plant- 15cm
As mentioned before, the Coffee plant is easy to take care of, the Coffee plant is not choosy about its location or watering. It is important that the soil is always slightly moist, in the summer months your coffee plant will need more water than in the winter months. We recommend that you water your coffee plant several times with small amounts of water, as it will be better able to absorb this than a large splash all at once. If your coffee plant develops brown leaf edges, this is often a sign of too much water. Check this by feeling the soil and reduce your watering. Keep a close eye on the soil (especially in the early days). The watering is different for every coffee plant and depends on a number of factors, such as: humidity, location and temperature.
Light requirements of the coffee plant
The Coffee Plant likes a light and warm location, but direct sunlight will not do it any favours. Place this houseplant in a place out of the draught; the Coffee Plant cannot stand it and it will be bothered by vermin more quickly. If your Coffee Plant develops brown leaves, this could indicate that it is in too cold a place or that it is standing in a draught. In this case, move it to keep it healthy.
Is the coffee plant poisonous?
The Coffee Plant is absolutely not poisonous to humans or animals, nevertheless we recommend you not to eat the leaves or unprocessed fruit or to consume them in food. The fruit of the Coffee Plant can be processed perfectly well if it is treated properly!
