The Calathea Maui Queen, as its name somewhat gives away, is a true Queen in purifying the air. The leaves are green coloured and have light green leaf markings along the seams, giving the plant a unique and beautiful appearance.

The Calathea Maui Queen is also nicknamed the 'Shadow Plant'. This is because in nature, Calatheas grow in the shade of large plants and trees and thus cannot tolerate too much (direct) sunlight.
When the sun goes down, the Calathea folds up its leaves. Because this looks like a hand praying, a second nickname for the Calathea is also called the 'Prayer Plant'. This pot is equipped with a wick (Wick). When the plant is thirsty, it draws water up through the wick. All you have to do is top up the water reservoir every now and then and find a good spot in the house! For the rest, the plant takes care of itself!

Originally, the Calathea Maui Queen grows in the tropics of South America and the Amazon region. Here, the plant grows up in the shade of larger plants and tall trees.
For this reason, the plant likes to be in a shady spot in your home and does not tolerate direct sunlight very well. So pay close attention to this when selecting a spot for the plant.
In a shady spot, the leaves will remain at their most beautiful and the leaf markings will remain most visible. The plant can also survive in normal daylight, but make sure it does not catch too much light. If the Calathea is too light, it will show this by curling its leaves and becoming crunchy.
