Epipremnum
The Epipremnum is one of the most popular houseplants because of its easy care and beautiful appearance. With its glossy, heart-shaped leaves in various shades of green, yellow and white, this plant fits into almost any interior.
Lush Epipremnum houseplants
The Epipremnum, also known as the Pothos, is one of the most popular houseplants because of its easy care and beautiful appearance. The leaves often have spots or stripes in different shades of green, yellow or white, giving the plant a playful and lively appearance. A special feature of the Epipremnum are the aerial roots that grow along the stems. These roots help the plant adhere to surfaces.
The Epipremnum can grow in two ways: as a climbing plant or as a hanging plant. As creeper it grows up along a moss stick or climbing frame, adding height and greenery to your interior.
As hanging plant it gracefully drops its long tendrils. Because of this versatility, the Epipremnum fits perfectly into any interior. It is also super easy to care for - ideal for beginners and experienced plant lovers alike!
The different types of Epipremnum plants
At Green Bubble, there are several varieties of Epipremnum plants available, each with their own unique look and characteristics. Therefore, there is always an Epipremnum that suits you.
Epipremnum Pinnatum
The Epipremnum Pinnatum has long, narrow leaves that develop incisions over time, giving the plant a unique and exotic look. This species grows quickly and can grow up as a climbing plant along a climbing frame, but also does beautifully as a hanging plant. The leaves are usually bright green, sometimes with beige tones, creating a peaceful and stylish atmosphere.
Epipremnum Aureum
The Epipremnum Aureum, also known as the Golden Pothos, is perhaps the best known variety. This plant has heart-shaped leaves with yellow or light green spots, giving a playful and cheerful effect. The Aureum is very strong and grows quickly, even in places with less light. This makes it an ideal choice for beginners.
Epipremnum Cebu Blue
The Epipremnum Cebu Blue is an unusual species with elongated, blue-green leaves that have a subtle, metallic sheen. This gives the plant a unique, almost magical look. The Cebu Blue grows quickly and can both climb and hang, allowing you to style it in your interior in many ways.
How do you care for an Epipremnum?
Epipremnum plants are easy to care for and grow well in places with indirect light. They do not need much water - a little once a week is often enough. Make sure the soil dries slightly between watering to prevent root rot.
The ideal amount of light for the Epipremnum
The Epipremnum is a houseplant that does well in a variety of light conditions, but it prefers a place with indirect, bright light. This means the plant likes to be near a window, but not in direct sunlight, as this can burn the leaves.
Watering the Epipremnum
The Epipremnum likes slightly moist soil, but too much water can be harmful. In spring and summer, the plant needs watering about once a week. In autumn and winter, you can reduce this to once every two weeks, as the plant will grow slower. Always check a little deeper in the soil first: if it feels dry, it's time to water. Make sure no water remains at the bottom of the pot to prevent root rot. Is your plant repotted? Then use a moisture meter to maintain moisture levels.
Although the Epipremnum does not need high humidity, you can lightly spray the leaves occasionally to remove dust and give the plant a fresh look. This is especially useful in winter, when the air is drier due to heating.
Plant Nutrition for the Epipremnum
In spring and summer, when the plant is actively growing, you can add some liquid houseplant food to the water once every four to six weeks. Use normal houseplant food and follow the recommended dosage on the package to avoid over-fertilization.
In autumn and winter, the Epipremnum is dormant and does not need additional nutrition. Therefore, stop feeding during this period so as not to overload the plant.
Can you cut this plant?
The Epipremnum is very easy to take cuttings from! You can propagate the plant by cutting off a stem with at least one leaf and an aerial root.
- Cut it off just below a leaf node. Make sure there is an aerial root on the cutting, as new roots will grow from it.
- Put the cutting in water and place it in a bright spot, but not in direct sunlight.
- Change the water every week.
- Wait until roots grow at least 5 cm long. This usually takes two to four weeks.
- Plant the cutting in potting soil and care for it like a normal Epipremnum.
