How do you care for an Epipremnum?

Epipremnum plants are easy to care for and grow well in places with indirect light. They do not need much water - a little once a week is often enough. Make sure the soil dries slightly between watering to prevent root rot.

The ideal amount of light for the Epipremnum

The Epipremnum is a houseplant that does well in a variety of light conditions, but it prefers a place with indirect, bright light. This means the plant likes to be near a window, but not in direct sunlight, as this can burn the leaves.

Watering the Epipremnum

The Epipremnum likes slightly moist soil, but too much water can be harmful. In spring and summer, the plant needs watering about once a week. In autumn and winter, you can reduce this to once every two weeks, as the plant will grow slower. Always check a little deeper in the soil first: if it feels dry, it's time to water. Make sure no water remains at the bottom of the pot to prevent root rot. Is your plant repotted? Then use a moisture meter to maintain moisture levels.

Although the Epipremnum does not need high humidity, you can lightly spray the leaves occasionally to remove dust and give the plant a fresh look. This is especially useful in winter, when the air is drier due to heating.

Plant Nutrition for the Epipremnum

In spring and summer, when the plant is actively growing, you can add some liquid houseplant food to the water once every four to six weeks. Use normal houseplant food and follow the recommended dosage on the package to avoid over-fertilization.

In autumn and winter, the Epipremnum is dormant and does not need additional nutrition. Therefore, stop feeding during this period so as not to overload the plant.

Can you cut this plant?

The Epipremnum is very easy to take cuttings from! You can propagate the plant by cutting off a stem with at least one leaf and an aerial root.

1. Cut it off just below a leaf node. Make sure there is an aerial root on the cutting, as new roots will grow from it.
2. Put the cutting in water and place it in a bright spot, but not in direct sunlight.
3. Change the water every week.
4. Wait until roots grow at least 5 cm long. This usually takes two to four weeks.
5. Plant the cutting in potting soil and care for it like a normal Epipremnum.
