The Trachycarpus is a real sun worshipper and needs that light intensity to stay beautiful and healthy. That does also make it a thirsty plant! In the summer months it's good to give it some extra plant food to support its growth and development. Use a special palm food and stick to the recommended amount. Its fan-shaped leaves and robust character make this palm a firm favourite. The Trachycarpus is hardy and survives temperatures down to -18 degrees Celsius, which makes it perfect for the Dutch garden.
How much water does the Trachycarpus - 165cm need?
As mentioned, the Trachycarpus is thirsty, and in the summer months especially it needs water every day. The soil certainly shouldn't dry out then. Do take care not to give too much, though, because the leaf tips can turn brown or black. If that happens, prune away the affected leaves and adjust your watering. In winter the soil can be a little drier between waterings, because the plant uses less water then.
How much light does the Trachycarpus - 165cm need?
The ideal spot for this palm is one with as much sunlight as possible. Both indoors and outdoors you can happily put it in direct sun. Do make sure it's sheltered from strong wind and draughts, as these can damage the leaves. Despite its tropical looks, the Trachycarpus stands up to cold temperatures and is a real survivor in winter.

No, the Trachycarpus isn't toxic and so it's safe around pets and children. We do advise against eating the leaves.
