Product Description

The Tulip bulbs Flaming Flag are bulbs of a striking tulip with white flowers and purple flame markings. Each flower has its own pattern, so a group never looks dull. They grow to around 45 to 50 centimetres tall on sturdy stems that stay nicely upright in wind and rain. This also makes them suitable as cut flowers.

The bulbs are size 11/12 and each produce one generous flower. The white and purple stands out well in the border, along the path or in a pot on the patio. With 15 bulbs you fill a pot of about 40 centimetres, with 30 bulbs a spot in the border. With 60 or 120 bulbs you can plant a whole bed; allow 50 to 70 bulbs per square metre. Combine them with plain white or purple tulip bulbs to make the flame markings stand out even more. You will find more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.

When should you plant the Tulip bulbs Flaming Flag?

The best time to plant the Tulip bulbs Flaming Flag is from mid-October to the end of November, once the soil has cooled to below 10 °C. The bulbs will then still form roots before winter without sprouting too early. As long as the ground is not frozen, you can plant until December. The bulbs need the winter cold to flower in April and May, so do not plant them in spring.

When do the Tulip bulbs Flaming Flag flower?

The Tulip bulbs Flaming Flag flower in April and May, usually from mid-April. Each flower stays beautiful for about two to three weeks. In a pot in a warm spot they often flower a week earlier, after a cold spring a little later. If you let the foliage die back after flowering, they will return next spring.

Care and tips Tulip bulbs Flaming Flag

Plant the bulbs pointed end up, about 12 to 15 centimetres deep and 8 to 10 centimetres apart. Tulips like well-drained soil; if your garden stays wet, mix some sand into the soil. In a pot, give them a drainage layer of gravel or clay pebbles; among our outdoor pots and baskets you will find a suitable model. After flowering, only cut off the spent flower and leave the foliage until it turns yellow, so the bulb stores food for next year. A little bulb fertiliser in autumn or early spring is enough.

Water needs of the Tulip bulbs Flaming Flag

In open ground the bulbs need little water. Only water after planting if the autumn is very dry. In a pot, water about once a week in spring as soon as the leaves appear. Never leave water standing in the saucer, because bulbs in wet soil will rot.

Light needs of the Tulip bulbs Flaming Flag

Give them a sunny spot with at least six hours of sun a day. In full sun the stems stay strong and the contrast between white and purple looks its best. In partial shade they flower too, but with slightly longer stems and less abundantly.

Are the Tulip bulbs Flaming Flag toxic?

The Tulip bulbs Flaming Flag are mildly toxic if ingested, especially the bulb itself. Keep them out of reach of pets and young children. The sap can irritate sensitive skin, so wear garden gloves when planting.

How will my Tulip bulbs Flaming Flag be shipped?

Your bulbs are carefully packed and shipped. That way they arrive safely and fresh from the grower.
