How much water does the Calathea Makoyana - 55cm need?
The potting soil of the Calathea Makoyana is best kept slightly moist, but be careful not to give the plant too much water. Excess water can collect at the bottom of the pot around the roots, which can lead to root rot. That's why we recommend checking before every watering whether the soil is still moist from last time. Is it? Then hold off on watering for a bit.
It's also a good idea to mist the leaves regularly with a plant sprayer. That keeps the humidity around the plant high.

The Calathea Makoyana originally comes from the tropics of South America, where it grows in the shade of large trees, especially in the Amazon region. That's why the plant doesn't cope well with too much (direct) sunlight and prefers a shady spot in the home. In a spot like that the leaves stay at their most beautiful and the plant is encouraged to form new leaf patterns.
