Product Description
The Tulip bulbs Symbiosa mix are a mixed selection of tulips in varied colours. Each bulb produces a classic tulip flower, and together they create a cheerful, colourful picture in early spring. The tulips grow to around 35 to 45 centimetres tall. Because the colours are mixed, you get a lively planting without any planning that suits every garden.
The bulbs are size 11/12 and each produce one flower. The mix is suitable for pots, for the border and for a loose planting in grass. With 12 bulbs you fill a pot of about 35 centimetres, with 24 bulbs a spot in the border. With 48 or 96 bulbs you can plant a bed or a strip in the lawn; allow 50 to 70 bulbs per square metre. Combine them with early-flowering tulip bulbs in a single plain colour, so the colourful mix stands out even more. You will find more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.
When should you plant the Tulip bulbs Symbiosa mix?
The best time to plant the Tulip bulbs Symbiosa mix is from mid-October to the end of November, once the soil has cooled to below 10 °C. The bulbs will then still form roots before winter without sprouting too early. As long as the ground is not frozen, you can plant until December. The bulbs need the winter cold to flower in March and April, so do not plant them in spring.
When do the Tulip bulbs Symbiosa mix flower?
The Tulip bulbs Symbiosa mix flower early in the tulip season, from late March into April. Each flower stays beautiful for about two weeks. In a pot in a warm spot they often flower a week earlier, after a cold spring a little later. If you let the foliage die back after flowering, they can return next spring; so only mow grass with tulips once the leaves have turned yellow.
Care and tips Tulip bulbs Symbiosa mix
Plant the bulbs pointed end up, about 12 to 15 centimetres deep and 8 to 10 centimetres apart. Tulips like well-drained soil; if your garden stays wet, mix some sand into the soil. In a pot, give them a drainage layer of gravel or clay pebbles; among our outdoor pots and baskets you will find a suitable model. For the vase, cut the stems when the buds are just showing colour, leaving as much foliage on the plant as possible. After flowering, only cut off the spent flower and leave the foliage until it turns yellow, so the bulb stores food for next year. A little bulb fertiliser in autumn or early spring is enough.
Water needs of the Tulip bulbs Symbiosa mix
In open ground the bulbs need little water. Only water after planting if the autumn is very dry. In a pot, water about once a week in spring as soon as the leaves appear. Never leave water standing in the saucer, because bulbs in wet soil will rot.
Light needs of the Tulip bulbs Symbiosa mix
Give them a sunny spot with at least six hours of sun a day. In full sun the stems stay strong and the flowers get their deepest colour. In partial shade they flower too, but with slightly longer stems and less abundantly.
Are the Tulip bulbs Symbiosa mix toxic?
The Tulip bulbs Symbiosa mix are mildly toxic if ingested, especially the bulb itself. Keep them out of reach of pets and young children. The sap can irritate sensitive skin, so wear garden gloves when planting.
How will my Tulip bulbs Symbiosa mix be shipped?
Your bulbs are carefully packed and shipped. That way they arrive safely and fresh from the grower.
