Product Description

The Daffodil bulbs Golden Ducat are bulbs of a double daffodil with golden-yellow flowers. Instead of a single trumpet, each flower has a full heart of tightly packed petals, making it look almost like a small peony. The plants grow to around 35 centimetres tall. Golden Ducat is an old, reliable variety that comes back year after year.

The bulbs are size 12/14, which makes them strong enough for full, heavy flowers. They suit the border, pots and troughs by the front door and small groups in the grass, where they naturalise. With 10 bulbs you fill a pot of about 30 centimetres, with 20 bulbs a spot in the border. With 40 or 80 bulbs you can plant a larger bed or a golden strip along the path; allow 30 to 50 bulbs per square metre. Combine them with single-flowered daffodil bulbs in white or yellow so the double flowers stand out even more. You will find more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.

When should you plant the Daffodil bulbs Golden Ducat?

The planting season for the Daffodil bulbs Golden Ducat runs from mid-October to the end of November. Wait until the soil has cooled to below 10 °C so the bulbs can root calmly first. If the ground is still open, you can continue into December. A cold winter is needed for flowering, so keeping the bulbs until spring makes no sense.

When do the Daffodil bulbs Golden Ducat flower?

The Daffodil bulbs Golden Ducat flower in March and April. Thanks to their double form the flowers stay decorative for a long time, about two to three weeks per flower. In a warm, sheltered spot or in a pot near the house they open earlier, while a cold spring delays flowering a little. They look wonderful in a vase; just stand the stems separately for a night first, because the slime makes other flowers wilt faster. In grass the groups get bigger every year.

Care and tips Daffodil bulbs Golden Ducat

Plant the bulbs about 15 centimetres deep, nose up, with around 10 to 12 centimetres between them. They grow in almost any garden soil that does not stay wet for long; add some coarse sand to heavy clay. For pots and troughs, a drainage layer at the bottom is essential; look among our outdoor pots and baskets for a suitable size. After flowering, cut off the flowers and leave the foliage until it yellows so the bulb can build up energy. A little bulb fertiliser in spring keeps flowering at its best.

Water needs of the Daffodil bulbs Golden Ducat

After planting, rain is sufficient in most years. Only water once if the autumn is unusually dry. In a pot they need more in spring: water about once a week, more often in warm and windy weather. They do not cope well with wet feet, so never leave the saucer full of water.

Light needs of the Daffodil bulbs Golden Ducat

The Daffodil bulbs Golden Ducat flower most beautifully in full sun. Preferably choose a spot out of the wind, as the heavy double flowers can droop after a rain shower. Partial shade is possible too, but they will flower slightly less profusely.

Are the Daffodil bulbs Golden Ducat toxic?

The Daffodil bulbs Golden Ducat are toxic if ingested, particularly the bulb. Keep them out of reach of pets and young children. The sap can irritate the skin, so wear gloves when planting or cutting flowers.

How will my Daffodil bulbs Golden Ducat be shipped?

Your bulbs are carefully packed and shipped. That way they arrive safely and fresh from the grower.
