Product Description

The Daffodil bulbs Recurvus are bulbs of the white pheasant's eye, a classic poet's daffodil. Pure white petals swept backwards surround a small orange eye, giving the flower an open, graceful look. The plants grow to about 35 to 40 centimetres tall. This daffodil is hardy, robust and at home in grass, where it spreads into wide clumps after a few years.

The bulbs are size 10/12, a standard size that flowers reliably and gives you plenty of bulbs for your money. That makes them suitable for naturalising in large numbers. With 30 bulbs you plant a few pots or a group around a tree. With 60 bulbs you fill a generous strip in the border or along the drive. The 120 or 240 bulbs are meant for an orchard, a stretch of lawn or a flowery verge; allow 30 to 50 bulbs per square metre. If you want to extend spring, combine them with earlier daffodil bulbs. You will find more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.

When should you plant the Daffodil bulbs Recurvus?

The planting season for the Daffodil bulbs Recurvus is autumn, from mid-October to the end of November. As soon as the soil drops below 10 °C the bulbs can go in: they then root without making leaves prematurely. Planting into December also works, as long as there is no frost in the ground. The bulbs need a cold winter, so spring planting will not work.

When do the Daffodil bulbs Recurvus flower?

Flowering falls in March and April. Pheasant's eyes are among the last daffodils of the season, so you usually see them open only in April, and after a cool spring sometimes even in early May. Each flower stays beautiful for a good two weeks. In pots in a sheltered, sunny spot they flower a little earlier. If you cut them for a bouquet, let them stand in their own vase for a night first. They return year after year and the clumps in the grass get bigger.

Care and tips Daffodil bulbs Recurvus

Put the bulbs about 12 centimetres deep, nose up and about 8 to 10 centimetres apart. In grass, make a hole with a bulb planter, drop the bulb in and press the plug of turf back down. Pheasant's eyes cope with somewhat moister soil than many other daffodils, but they do not tolerate standing water. Pots get a layer of gravel or clay pebbles at the bottom; you will find an attractive pot among our outdoor pots and baskets. After flowering, remove the spent flowers and wait to mow until the foliage is yellow. Feeding is hardly needed in open ground; give pots some bulb fertiliser in March.

Water needs of the Daffodil bulbs Recurvus

This daffodil likes soil that stays slightly moist in spring. In the garden rain usually provides enough; only in a dry spring is an extra watering can welcome. Bulbs in a pot get water about weekly from the moment they sprout. Do not let the soil become soaked in between, and always empty a full saucer.

Light needs of the Daffodil bulbs Recurvus

Give them sun for the richest flowering. They also flower well under deciduous trees and shrubs, because the trees only come into full leaf after the daffodils have flowered.

Are the Daffodil bulbs Recurvus toxic?

The Daffodil bulbs Recurvus are toxic if ingested; the bulb in particular is harmful. Choose a spot out of reach of pets and young children. The sap can irritate the skin, so work with garden gloves.

How will my Daffodil bulbs Recurvus be shipped?

Your bulbs are carefully packed and shipped. That way they arrive safely and fresh from the grower.
