Product Description

The Tulip bulbs Greigii mix are bulbs of Greigii tulips in mixed colours. These botanical tulips stay low, around 20 to 30 centimetres, and besides their flowers they have a second ornament: the leaves are striped and marked in a dark colour, so the plant is decorative even before the buds open.

The bulbs are size 11/12 and available in packs of 15, 30, 60 or 120; the larger the pack, the better the value per bulb. Greigii tulips suit the front of the border, containers and pots, and a sunny edge. With 15 bulbs you fill a container or a pot of about 35 centimetres, with 30 bulbs a spot at the front of the border. With 60 or 120 bulbs you plant an entire edge along the patio or a bed; allow 50 to 70 bulbs per square metre. They are also nice as short cut flowers. Combine them with other tulip bulbs, for example taller varieties that flower later and stand behind them. You will find more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.

When should you plant the Tulip bulbs Greigii mix?

The Tulip bulbs Greigii mix go into the ground from mid-October to the end of November. Wait until the soil has dropped below 10 °C: the bulbs then root well but do not yet produce leaves. As long as there is no frost in the ground, you can plant into December. Planting in spring does not work, because the bulbs need the winter cold to flower.

When do the Tulip bulbs Greigii mix flower?

The Tulip bulbs Greigii mix flower early, in March and April. A flower stays beautiful for about two weeks; on sunny days the cups open wide and in the evening they close again. In a pot in a warm spot flowering comes earlier, after a chilly March later. In a sunny, dry spot Greigii tulips often return for a number of years.

Care and tips Tulip bulbs Greigii mix

Set the bulbs about 10 to 12 centimetres deep, two to three times the bulb height, pointed end up and 8 centimetres apart. A sandy, free-draining soil is ideal; if water stands on your soil for long, mix in coarse sand or grit. In containers and pots, provide a drainage layer and a drainage hole; among our outdoor pots and baskets you will find low and tall models. After flowering, cut off the flower and simply leave the marked foliage until it dies back. A little bulb fertiliser as the leaves emerge is enough.

Water needs of the Tulip bulbs Greigii mix

Greigii tulips like a somewhat drier soil and need hardly any extra water in the garden. Only in a very dry autumn do you give them one good soaking after planting. In pots and containers, water about once a week in spring as soon as the leaves are visible, and let the compost dry slightly in between. Standing water in the saucer will rot the bulbs.

Light needs of the Tulip bulbs Greigii mix

These tulips are true sun lovers. Give them a spot with at least six hours of sun a day, so the flowers open fully and the foliage keeps its attractive markings. In partial shade they flower less and the flowers stay closed more often.

Are the Tulip bulbs Greigii mix toxic?

The Tulip bulbs Greigii mix are mildly toxic if ingested, like other tulips, and this applies mainly to the bulb. Keep them out of reach of pets and young children. Wear garden gloves if you have sensitive skin, as the sap can irritate.

How will my Tulip bulbs Greigii mix be shipped?

Your bulbs are carefully packed and shipped. That way they arrive safely and fresh from the grower.
