The flowering houseplant Orchid
The Orchid is one of the best-loved flowering houseplants in the Netherlands. Originally from Southeast Asia and Australia, it now comes in between 25,000 and 30,000 different species. At Green-Bubble we offer more than 20 unique Orchids, each with its own charm and colour.
Despite all that variety, Orchids usually have similar care needs. They need little water, but the potting soil should always stay slightly moist. Make sure no layer of water is left standing in the bottom of the pot, to avoid root rot. Pour the water around the plant, never directly onto the plant itself.
Give the Orchid a bright spot out of direct sunlight. Too much sun can make the flowers wilt and damage the leaves. Once it has finished flowering you can cut off the spent flower spike and give the Orchid a little less attention. Move it somewhere cooler and water less to encourage new shoots for the following season.
The flowering houseplant Anthurium
The Anthurium, also known as the flamingo plant, is famous for its striking flowers. This plant comes from South America and counts more than 6,000 species. Caring for the Anthurium is simple. It needs slightly moist soil and can dry out a little in winter before you water again. Overwatering can lead to root rot, which you'll recognise by brown spots on the leaves. Give several small amounts of water rather than one big one to prevent this.
Give the Anthurium a bright spot out of direct sunlight to keep those beautiful flowers at their best. Too much sunlight can fade the leaves, while too little sun can lead to green flowers or no flowers at all.
