Product Description

The Flower bulb mix Moist garden is a mix of spring-flowering bulbs for the spots in the garden where the soil stays moist for longer. The flowers come in various colours, and the plants grow to around 15 to 40 centimetres. In a natural corner the mix naturalises and returns every year.

The bulbs are size 10/12. Plant them in a slightly lower-lying border, near a pond or ditch, in a natural garden corner or in a pot or planter. With 30 bulbs you fill a large pot or a small spot at the edge of the pond. With 60 bulbs you create a nice group, and with 120 or 240 bulbs you plant a whole moist corner or a strip along the water; allow 50 to 70 bulbs per square metre. For the drier parts of the garden you will find more choice among our flower bulb mixes. You will find more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.

When should you plant the Flower bulb mix Moist garden?

Put the Flower bulb mix Moist garden in the ground between mid-October and the end of November, as soon as the soil is colder than 10 °C. The bulbs will then still make roots but will not sprout prematurely. As long as the ground is not frozen, you can carry on into December. They need a cold winter to be able to flower, so we advise against planting in spring.

When do the Flower bulb mix Moist garden flower?

The Flower bulb mix Moist garden flowers in March and April. The species do not open at the same time, so you have flowers for a few weeks; each individual flower stays beautiful for one to three weeks. In a pot against a warm wall flowering starts earlier, in a cold spring later. The bulbs naturalise, so the group gets a little bigger every year.

Care and tips Flower bulb mix Moist garden

Plant the bulbs pointed end up, about 10 centimetres deep, which equals two to three times the bulb height, and 8 to 10 centimetres apart. Moist is not the same as waterlogged: choose a spot where the soil stays moist, but where no water is left standing after a shower. On heavy, wet clay, put a handful of coarse sand under each bulb. In a pot or planter a drainage layer of gravel or clay pebbles is needed; among our outdoor pots and baskets you will find pots with a drainage hole. After flowering, let the foliage yellow quietly before removing it. In moist, nutrient-rich soil, fertilising is usually not necessary.

Water needs of the Flower bulb mix Moist garden

In a moist spot you hardly ever need to water bulbs in open ground. Only during a long dry spell in spring can you give one good soaking. A pot or planter does dry out: water there about once a week from the moment the leaves appear, and keep the soil lightly moist. Never leave the pot standing in a full saucer.

Light needs of the Flower bulb mix Moist garden

The mix thrives best in partial shade, for example a spot that only gets sun in the morning or afternoon. A sunny spot is also possible, as long as the soil does not dry out there.

Are the Flower bulb mix Moist garden toxic?

The Flower bulb mix Moist garden is mildly toxic if ingested, most of all in the bulbs. Keep them away from pets and young children. The sap can irritate sensitive skin, so garden gloves are handy when planting.

How will my Flower bulb mix Moist garden be shipped?

Your bulbs are carefully packed and shipped. That way they arrive safely and fresh from the grower.
