Product Description

The Flower bulb mix Sunny garden is a mix of spring-flowering bulbs for the warmest spots in your garden. The colours range from soft pastel shades to fiery, warm colours. The species vary in height, roughly from 20 to 50 centimetres, and some of the bulbs can naturalise over time.

The bulbs are size 10/12. They look lovely in the border and are suitable for both large and small pots; feel free to cut a few stems for the vase too. With 35 bulbs you fill a few small pots or one large one, with 70 bulbs a generous spot in the border. With 140 or 280 bulbs you plant a whole sunny bed or a strip along the patio; allow 50 to 70 bulbs per square metre. Among our other flower bulb mixes you will also find mixes for shade or moist soil. You will find more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.

When should you plant the Flower bulb mix Sunny garden?

Mid-October to the end of November is the best period to plant the Flower bulb mix Sunny garden. The soil is then colder than 10 °C, so the bulbs root but do not sprout yet. You can still plant in December, as long as the ground is not frozen. Without a cold winter the bulbs will not flower, so do not wait until spring.

When do the Flower bulb mix Sunny garden flower?

The Flower bulb mix Sunny garden flowers in March and April. The species open one after another, so there is something to see for weeks; a single flower stays beautiful for one to three weeks. In a sunny, sheltered spot or in a pot on the patio flowering often starts earlier, after a cold spring later. Let the foliage die back after flowering, and the bulbs will flower again next spring.

Care and tips Flower bulb mix Sunny garden

Plant each bulb pointed end up at a depth of two to three times its own height, for this size about 10 to 12 centimetres, and keep 8 to 10 centimetres between them. On heavy soil, mix some sand into the planting hole. For small and large pots alike: first a layer of gravel or clay pebbles, then potting compost; among our outdoor pots and baskets you will find pots in all sizes. Cut off spent flowers, but leave the foliage until it withers. In open ground a little bulb fertiliser in early spring is enough.

Water needs of the Flower bulb mix Sunny garden

Bulbs in open ground manage with rainwater. Only in an exceptionally dry autumn do you water after planting. Pots in the sun dry out quickly: check them regularly in spring and water about once or twice a week as soon as the leaves are visible. Standing water in the saucer makes the bulbs rot, so pour it away.

Light needs of the Flower bulb mix Sunny garden

This mix belongs in full sun, in a spot with at least six hours of sun a day. That is where the flowers open most beautifully and the stems stay sturdy. In partial shade the mix flowers too, but less exuberantly.

Are the Flower bulb mix Sunny garden toxic?

The Flower bulb mix Sunny garden is mildly toxic if ingested, especially the bulbs themselves. So plant and store them out of reach of pets and young children. The sap can irritate sensitive skin; use garden gloves when planting.

How will my Flower bulb mix Sunny garden be shipped?

Your bulbs are carefully packed and shipped. That way they arrive safely and fresh from the grower.
