Product Description

The Tulip bulbs Vendeeglobe are bulbs of a tulip with large, warm yellow flowers on sturdy flower stems. They grow to about 50 centimetres tall. Thanks to those strong stems they stay upright in wind and rain and are also suitable as a cut flower.

The bulbs are size 11/12 and each produce one generous flower. The bright yellow brings light to the border, along the path or in a pot on the patio. With 12 bulbs you fill a pot of around 35 centimetres, with 24 bulbs a spot in the border. With 48 or 96 bulbs you can plant a whole bed or a yellow strip along the path; allow 50 to 70 bulbs per square metre. Combine them with other tulip bulbs that flower in April and May, such as purple or white varieties. You will find more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.

When should you plant the Tulip bulbs Vendeeglobe?

The best time to plant the Tulip bulbs Vendeeglobe is from mid-October to the end of November, when the soil has cooled to below 10 °C. The bulbs then root before winter without sprouting too early. If the ground is not frozen, you can carry on into December. Tulips need a cold period to flower, so planting in spring makes no sense.

When do the Tulip bulbs Vendeeglobe flower?

The Tulip bulbs Vendeeglobe flower in April and May, in the second half of the tulip season. Each flower stays beautiful for about two to three weeks. If you cut them for the vase, do so when the bud is just colouring; they will last about a week. In a pot in a warm spot they flower earlier, after a cold spring later. If you let the foliage die back after flowering, they will return next spring.

Care and tips Tulip bulbs Vendeeglobe

Plant the bulbs pointed end up, about 12 to 15 centimetres deep and 10 centimetres apart. They want well-drained soil; in heavy clay, mix some sand into the planting soil. In a pot, start with a layer of gravel or clay pebbles for drainage; among our outdoor pots and baskets you will find a pot that fits. After flowering, cut off the spent flower and leave the foliage until it has turned yellow, so the bulb can recover its strength. A little bulb fertiliser in early spring is sufficient.

Water needs of the Tulip bulbs Vendeeglobe

Bulbs in open ground usually manage with rainwater. Only in a dry autumn should you water once after planting. In a pot, water about once a week from the moment the leaves appear. Never leave water in the saucer, because the bulbs rot in wet soil.

Light needs of the Tulip bulbs Vendeeglobe

Put them in a sunny spot with at least six hours of sun a day. There the stems stay sturdy and the yellow is at its brightest. In partial shade they flower too, but less abundantly and with longer stems.

Are the Tulip bulbs Vendeeglobe toxic?

The Tulip bulbs Vendeeglobe are mildly toxic if ingested, especially the bulb itself. Keep them out of reach of pets and young children. The sap can irritate sensitive skin, so wear garden gloves when planting.

How will my Tulip bulbs Vendeeglobe be shipped?

Your bulbs are carefully packed and shipped. That way they arrive safely and fresh from the grower.
