Product Description

The Tulip bulbs Sorbet mix are bulbs of a colourful tulip mix in which soft, pastel-like shades and vivid colours are blended together. The tulips grow to around 40 to 50 centimetres and carry their flowers on sturdy stems.

The bulbs are size 11/12 and each produce one generous flower. The mix looks its best in colourful borders and large pots, and also makes a good cut flower. With 12 bulbs you fill a pot of about 30 centimetres, with 24 bulbs a large pot or a spot in the border. With 48 or 96 bulbs you can plant a whole bed; allow 50 to 70 bulbs per square metre. Combine them with other tulip bulbs that flower in April and May, for example in a single colour that also appears in the mix. You will find more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.

When should you plant the Tulip bulbs Sorbet mix?

The best time to plant the Tulip bulbs Sorbet mix is from mid-October to the end of November, once the soil has cooled to below 10 °C. The bulbs will then still form roots before winter without sprouting too early. As long as the ground is not frozen, you can plant until December. The bulbs need the winter cold to flower in April and May, so do not plant them in spring.

When do the Tulip bulbs Sorbet mix flower?

The Tulip bulbs Sorbet mix flower later in the tulip season, from April into May. Each flower stays beautiful for about two to three weeks. In a pot in a warm spot they often flower a week earlier, after a cold spring a little later. If you let the foliage die back after flowering, they often return the following spring, although the flowers usually become smaller after a few years.

Care and tips Tulip bulbs Sorbet mix

Plant the bulbs pointed end up, about 12 to 15 centimetres deep and 8 to 10 centimetres apart. Tulips like well-drained soil; if your garden stays wet, mix some sand into the soil. Give a large pot a drainage layer of gravel or clay pebbles; among our outdoor pots and baskets you will find a suitable model. For the vase, cut the tulips when the bud is just showing colour. After flowering, cut off the spent flower and leave the foliage until it turns yellow. A little bulb fertiliser in early spring is enough.

Water needs of the Tulip bulbs Sorbet mix

In open ground the bulbs need little water. Only water after planting if the autumn is very dry. In a pot, water about once a week in spring as soon as the leaves appear. Never leave water standing in the saucer, because bulbs in wet soil will rot.

Light needs of the Tulip bulbs Sorbet mix

Give them a sunny spot with at least six hours of sun a day. In full sun the stems stay strong and the flowers get their best colour. In partial shade they flower too, but with slightly longer stems and less abundantly.

Are the Tulip bulbs Sorbet mix toxic?

The Tulip bulbs Sorbet mix are mildly toxic if ingested, especially the bulb itself. Keep them out of reach of pets and young children. The sap can irritate sensitive skin, so wear garden gloves when planting.

How will my Tulip bulbs Sorbet mix be shipped?

Your bulbs are carefully packed and shipped. That way they arrive safely and fresh from the grower.
