Product Description

The Tulip bulbs Prince mix are bulbs of early tulips in a blend of soft pastel shades and fiery, vivid colours. The flowers sit on sturdy stems of around 30 to 40 centimetres. Because they stay compact, they remain nicely upright even in changeable spring weather.

The bulbs are size 11/16 and each produce one flower. The mix suits borders, flower beds, pots and planters, and also makes a good cut flower. With 40 bulbs you fill one large pot or two smaller ones, with 80 bulbs a generous spot in the border. With 160 or 320 bulbs you can plant a whole bed or a strip in the lawn; allow 50 to 70 bulbs per square metre. Combine them with other tulip bulbs that flower early, so your garden has colour from March. You will find more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.

When should you plant the Tulip bulbs Prince mix?

The best time to plant the Tulip bulbs Prince mix is from mid-October to the end of November, once the soil has cooled to below 10 °C. The bulbs will then still form roots before winter without sprouting too early. As long as the ground is not frozen, you can plant until December. The bulbs need the winter cold to flower in March and April, so do not plant them in spring.

When do the Tulip bulbs Prince mix flower?

The Tulip bulbs Prince mix flower early in the tulip season, from March into April. Each flower stays beautiful for about two weeks. In a pot in a warm spot they often flower a week earlier, after a cold spring a little later. These tulips can naturalise in grass: if you plant them in a strip of lawn that you only mow once the foliage has died back, they will return there for several years.

Care and tips Tulip bulbs Prince mix

Plant the bulbs pointed end up, about 12 to 15 centimetres deep and 8 to 10 centimetres apart. In grass, make a hole with a bulb planter, place the bulb in it and press the turf back down. Tulips like well-drained soil; if your soil stays wet, mix in some sand. In a pot, give them a drainage layer of gravel or clay pebbles; among our outdoor pots and baskets you will find a suitable model. After flowering, cut off the spent flower and leave the foliage until it turns yellow. A little bulb fertiliser in early spring is enough.

Water needs of the Tulip bulbs Prince mix

In open ground the bulbs need little water. Only water after planting if the autumn is very dry. In a pot, water about once a week in spring as soon as the leaves appear. Never leave water standing in the saucer, because bulbs in wet soil will rot.

Light needs of the Tulip bulbs Prince mix

Give them a sunny spot with at least six hours of sun a day. In full sun the stems stay strong and the flowers get their best colour. In partial shade they flower too, but with slightly longer stems and less abundantly.

Are the Tulip bulbs Prince mix toxic?

The Tulip bulbs Prince mix are mildly toxic if ingested, especially the bulb itself. Keep them out of reach of pets and young children. The sap can irritate sensitive skin, so wear garden gloves when planting.

How will my Tulip bulbs Prince mix be shipped?

Your bulbs are carefully packed and shipped. That way they arrive safely and fresh from the grower.
