Product Description

The Tulip bulbs Double Pink are bulbs of a double late tulip with pink flowers so full of petals that they look almost like peonies. They grow to around 40 centimetres tall. Double tulips flower longer than most single tulips and bring a soft, romantic feel to the garden.

The bulbs are size 11/12 and each produce one generous flower. Planted in a group they form a romantic pink patch in the border, along the path or in a large pot on the patio. They also make lovely cut flowers for a vase. With 12 bulbs you fill a pot of about 35 centimetres, with 24 bulbs a spot in the border. With 48 or 96 bulbs you can plant a whole bed; allow 50 to 70 bulbs per square metre. Combine them with other tulip bulbs that flower at the same time, such as white or lilac double tulips. You will find more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.

When should you plant the Tulip bulbs Double Pink?

The best time to plant the Tulip bulbs Double Pink is from mid-October to the end of November, once the soil has cooled to below 10 °C. The bulbs will then still form roots before winter without sprouting too early. As long as the ground is not frozen, you can plant until December. The bulbs need the winter cold to flower in April and May, so do not plant them in spring.

When do the Tulip bulbs Double Pink flower?

The Tulip bulbs Double Pink flower late in the tulip season, from late April to mid-May. Each flower stays beautiful for about two to three weeks. In a pot in a warm spot they often flower a week earlier, after a cold spring a little later. If you let the foliage die back after flowering, they will often return next spring, although the flowering is usually somewhat smaller in later years.

Care and tips Tulip bulbs Double Pink

Plant the bulbs pointed end up, about 12 to 15 centimetres deep and 8 to 10 centimetres apart. Tulips like well-drained soil; if your garden stays wet, mix some sand into the soil. In a pot, give them a drainage layer of gravel or clay pebbles; among our outdoor pots and baskets you will find a suitable model. After flowering, only cut off the spent flower and leave the foliage until it turns yellow, so the bulb stores food for next year. A little bulb fertiliser in autumn or early spring is enough.

Water needs of the Tulip bulbs Double Pink

In open ground the bulbs need little water. Only water after planting if the autumn is very dry. In a pot, water about once a week in spring as soon as the leaves appear. Never leave water standing in the saucer, because bulbs in wet soil will rot.

Light needs of the Tulip bulbs Double Pink

Give them a sunny spot with at least six hours of sun a day. In full sun the stems stay strong and the flowers get their best colour. Preferably choose a sheltered spot, because the heavy double flowers can droop after a heavy shower.

Are the Tulip bulbs Double Pink toxic?

The Tulip bulbs Double Pink are mildly toxic if ingested, especially the bulb itself. Keep them out of reach of pets and young children.

How will my Tulip bulbs Double Pink be shipped?

Your bulbs are carefully packed and shipped. That way they arrive safely and fresh from the grower.
