Product Description

The Daffodil bulbs Large Cupped mix are a blend of large-cupped daffodils in yellow and white. Large-cupped daffodils have big flowers with a wide, striking cup in the centre, and in this mix yellow and white flowers alternate. The plants grow to around 40 to 45 centimetres tall.

The bulbs are size 12/14 and produce large flowers on sturdy stems. The colour mix gives a natural, varied look in the border, in pots and troughs or scattered in the lawn and under trees. With 15 bulbs you fill a large pot or trough, with 30 bulbs a spot in the border. With 60 or 120 bulbs you can plant a good-sized bed or a flowering strip in the grass; allow 30 to 50 bulbs per square metre. Combine the mix with a few early daffodil bulbs to extend the daffodil season. You will find more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.

When should you plant the Daffodil bulbs Large Cupped mix?

Autumn is planting season for the Daffodil bulbs Large Cupped mix: between mid-October and the end of November, when the soil temperature drops below 10 °C. The bulbs then have enough time to build a strong root system before the frost. If you are later, you can carry on into December as long as the ground is not frozen. They need a cold winter to flower; planting in spring will not give you any flowers.

When do the Daffodil bulbs Large Cupped mix flower?

The Daffodil bulbs Large Cupped mix flower in March and April. Each flower lasts about two weeks, and because the flowers in the mix do not all open at once, you enjoy the group for longer. Bulbs in a pot on the patio usually flower a little earlier, while a cold spring delays flowering. They are also good for cutting; put fresh stems in a separate vase for a night first. Left undisturbed, they naturalise and the groups get fuller every year.

Care and tips Daffodil bulbs Large Cupped mix

Plant the bulbs around 15 centimetres deep, pointed end up and 10 to 15 centimetres apart. They are not fussy about soil, as long as excess water can drain away; lighten heavy soil with some sand. A pot or trough needs a drainage hole and a layer of gravel at the bottom; among our outdoor pots and baskets you will find various sizes. After flowering, remove the spent flowers but leave the foliage until it is yellow. A handful of bulb fertiliser in early spring is enough.

Water needs of the Daffodil bulbs Large Cupped mix

Rain usually gives bulbs in the ground enough moisture. After planting in a dry autumn, water once. In a pot or trough, keep the soil lightly moist in spring by watering about every week. Avoid wet soil and water in the saucer, otherwise the bulbs will rot.

Light needs of the Daffodil bulbs Large Cupped mix

They prefer the sun, where the cups colour most beautifully and the stems stay sturdy. Partial shade under deciduous trees or shrubs works too, as enough light still gets through there in March and April.

Are the Daffodil bulbs Large Cupped mix toxic?

The Daffodil bulbs Large Cupped mix are toxic if ingested, especially the bulbs themselves. Keep them out of reach of pets and young children. The sap can irritate the skin, so put on garden gloves when planting and cutting.

How will my Daffodil bulbs Large Cupped mix be shipped?

Your bulbs are carefully packed and shipped. That way they arrive safely and fresh from the grower.
