The Dasylirion Longissimum is also known as the grass tree. This grass tree of 140 cm has a sturdy trunk topped with a lovely sphere of long, narrow, green leaves. It looks a bit like a yucca, but it is just that little bit more graceful. The slender leaves sway in the wind, and that gives your garden a playful, southern character.

It is strong and easy-going, and it feels at home in a modern or Mediterranean garden. Put it together with other Mediterranean plants for a southern atmosphere. On its own in a gravel bed or next to the front door, it also comes into its own. A great partner is the Nolina Nelsonii, because its blue-grey leaves create a lovely contrast. The Dasylirion is strong and easy. Plant it in sandy, well-draining soil or in a large pot with a generous drainage layer.
