The Ficus Elastica Robusta is also known as the Indian rubber tree. Right up to the 20th century the Ficus Robusta was an important source for extracting rubber. The Elastica Robusta belongs to the Ficus family, which counts more than 1,000 different species, many of them so unalike that you'd never guess they were related. Most Ficus species originally come from tropical Asia.

The Ficus Robusta bush is not a difficult houseplant to look after. It is sensitive to new surroundings, though. If the Ficus starts growing towards one side, don't move it all at once but turn it a small amount every day. Big changes can make it drop its leaves. A weekly misting does the Ficus' leaves a world of good, and it gives dust and any pests no chance to settle.
