Product Description
The Daffodil bulbs White Petticoat are bulbs of a small, unusual daffodil with a pure white flower. The wide, funnel-shaped crown resembles an old-fashioned hoop petticoat, with narrow, swept-back petals around it. The plants grow to about 15 centimetres tall and have thin, grass-like leaves. Thanks to their delicate size they give a graceful, slightly wilder look than large garden daffodils.
The bulbs are size 6/8; that is small, but normal for this compact daffodil. Plant them in groups at the front of the border, in a large pot or in the lawn, where they can naturalise. With 20 bulbs you fill a wide pot of about 35 centimetres, with 40 bulbs a spot at the front of the border. With 80 or 160 bulbs you create a white patch or strip in the grass; because this is a small daffodil, allow 50 to 70 bulbs per square metre. Combine them with other low daffodil bulbs that flower in March. You will find more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.
When should you plant the Daffodil bulbs White Petticoat?
You plant the Daffodil bulbs White Petticoat best between mid-October and the end of November. The soil is then below 10 °C, so the small bulbs form roots but do not sprout yet. If the ground is not frozen, planting in December is also possible. Without a cold winter there will be no flowers, so spring planting is not an option.
When do the Daffodil bulbs White Petticoat flower?
The Daffodil bulbs White Petticoat flower in March and April. Each flower stays beautiful for about two weeks, and because the flowers in a group do not all open at once, the display lasts longer overall. In a pot in a warm spot the first flower opens earlier, after a cold spring later. When they are happy, they naturalise in the lawn and slowly spread.
Care and tips Daffodil bulbs White Petticoat
Plant the small bulbs about 8 to 10 centimetres deep, a good twice their own height, with 5 to 8 centimetres between them. They like well-drained soil that stays slightly moist in spring; in summer it may be dry. A large pot with drainage holes and a layer of gravel at the bottom works well; among our outdoor pots and baskets you will find one that fits. After flowering, leave the fine foliage until it withers by itself, and only mow the grass in that spot afterwards. Extra fertiliser is rarely needed; on very poor soil give a little bulb fertiliser in spring.
Water needs of the Daffodil bulbs White Petticoat
In open ground you usually do not need to water. If the spring is very dry while they are growing and flowering, a watering helps. In a pot, give a little water every week from the moment the leaves appear. From summer onwards keep the pot drier instead, because the bulbs rot in wet soil.
Light needs of the Daffodil bulbs White Petticoat
Give the Daffodil bulbs White Petticoat a spot in full sun. There the flowers open well and the plants stay compact. A sunny lawn edge, the front of the border or a pot on a south-facing patio is ideal.
Are the Daffodil bulbs White Petticoat toxic?
The Daffodil bulbs White Petticoat are toxic if ingested; this applies especially to the bulbs. Store and plant them out of reach of pets and young children. The sap can irritate the skin, so wear garden gloves.
How will my Daffodil bulbs White Petticoat be shipped?
Your bulbs are carefully packed and shipped. That way they arrive safely and fresh from the grower.
