Product Description

The Daffodil bulbs Tête-à-Tête are bulbs of a well-known miniature daffodil with bright yellow flowers. The plants stay compact and grow only about 15 to 20 centimetres tall, so they do not flop over in wind or rain. Because they flower so early, they are among the first to bring colour to the garden after winter.

The bulbs are size 10/11. They come in generous quantities, so you can plant them lavishly: in pots and window boxes, at the front of the border or loose in the grass and under trees, where they spread after a few years. With 25 bulbs you fill two or three pots or a window box, with 50 bulbs a sizeable group along the path or by the front door. With 100 or 200 bulbs you can naturalise a stretch of lawn or a strip under trees; allow 30 to 50 bulbs per square metre. Combine them with other daffodil bulbs that flower later, so the daffodil season lasts longer. You will find more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.

When should you plant the Daffodil bulbs Tête-à-Tête?

Daffodils like to root in good time in autumn, so ideally plant the Daffodil bulbs Tête-à-Tête from mid-October and by the end of November at the latest, once the soil has dropped below 10 °C. If it is not yet freezing, you can carry on into December. A cold spell in the ground is needed to trigger flowering; planting in spring will not give you flowers.

When do the Daffodil bulbs Tête-à-Tête flower?

The Daffodil bulbs Tête-à-Tête are among the earliest daffodils and flower from February to April, depending on the weather. Each flower stays beautiful for about two to three weeks. In a pot near the house or in a sheltered, sunny spot they open earlier, after a hard winter later. The bulbs return every year and produce more and more flowering stems.

Care and tips Daffodil bulbs Tête-à-Tête

A bulb of this size is about three centimetres tall, so plant it roughly 8 to 10 centimetres deep, pointed end up and 5 to 8 centimetres apart. They grow in ordinary garden soil, as long as excess water can drain away. For pots, choose one with a hole in the base and put a thin layer of gravel or clay pebbles at the bottom; you will find suitable ones among our outdoor pots and baskets. After flowering, remove the faded flowers but leave the foliage until it turns yellow by itself; only mow a naturalised strip of grass after that. Scatter a little bulb fertiliser in early spring; they need no more feeding than that.

Water needs of the Daffodil bulbs Tête-à-Tête

In the garden the bulbs usually get by on rainwater. If the autumn after planting is very dry, give them one good soaking so they can root. Pots dry out faster: keep the compost lightly moist during growth and flowering and water about once a week. Make sure no water is left standing in the saucer, otherwise the bulbs will rot.

Light needs of the Daffodil bulbs Tête-à-Tête

Place them in the sun. In a sunny spot the plants stay compact and flower most freely. They also do well under deciduous trees, because these are still bare in February and March and let the light through.

Are the Daffodil bulbs Tête-à-Tête toxic?

The Daffodil bulbs Tête-à-Tête are toxic if ingested; this applies to the bulb but also to the leaves and flowers. Keep them out of reach of pets and young children. The sap can irritate the skin, so wear gloves when planting and picking.

How will my Daffodil bulbs Tête-à-Tête be shipped?

Your bulbs are carefully packed and shipped. That way they arrive safely and fresh from the grower.
