Product Description

The Daffodil bulbs Ice King are bulbs of a double daffodil with full, lush flowers in white and yellow. White outer petals frame a full, ruffled heart in soft yellow, giving the flower a rich, romantic look. The plants grow to around 40 centimetres tall.

The bulbs are size 12/14, a generous size that produces large, full flowers. They look good in pots on the balcony or patio, in the border and in lawns or meadows, where they can naturalise. With 10 bulbs you create a lovely pot, with 20 bulbs an eye-catching group in the border. With 40 or 80 bulbs you can fill a whole bed or a patch of grass; allow 30 to 50 bulbs per square metre. Combine them with bright yellow daffodil bulbs to bring out the soft shades of Ice King. You will find more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.

When should you plant the Daffodil bulbs Ice King?

Plant the Daffodil bulbs Ice King between mid-October and the end of November. By then the soil is usually below 10 °C: cool enough for the bulbs to form roots without sprouting yet. If you cannot manage it sooner, you can still plant in December as long as the ground is not frozen. Winter cold is essential for the flower buds to form; bulbs that only go into the ground in spring will not flower.

When do the Daffodil bulbs Ice King flower?

The Daffodil bulbs Ice King flower in March and April. Each flower stays at its best for about two weeks. In a pot in a sunny spot they come into flower earlier, after a cold spring a little later. They do very well in a vase; just give them water separately for a night first, so the sap from the stems does not make other flowers wilt. In grass the bulbs spread further every year.

Care and tips Daffodil bulbs Ice King

Dig a hole about 15 centimetres deep for each bulb and keep 10 to 12 centimetres between them. Use loose soil that lets rainwater drain freely; in heavy or wet soil, mix some sand or fine gravel into the top layer. In a pot, first put a layer of clay pebbles on the bottom; you will find a suitable pot among our outdoor pots and baskets. After flowering, cut off the flowers and leave the foliage until it turns yellow by itself, at least six weeks. On poor soil, give a little bulb fertiliser in spring.

Water needs of the Daffodil bulbs Ice King

For bulbs in open ground you rarely need the watering can; natural rainfall is usually enough. Only during a prolonged dry spell in autumn should you water after planting. In a pot, water about weekly from the moment the first leaves appear. Let the water drain away well, because the bulbs rot in soggy soil.

Light needs of the Daffodil bulbs Ice King

A spot in full sun gives the most flowers and the sturdiest stems. Partial shade, for example under trees that leaf out late, is fine too. Preferably choose a somewhat sheltered spot so the heavy double flowers stay upright in wind and rain.

Are the Daffodil bulbs Ice King toxic?

The Daffodil bulbs Ice King are toxic if ingested, especially the bulbs. Store and plant them out of reach of pets and young children. The sap can irritate the skin, so use gloves when planting or picking flowers.

How will my Daffodil bulbs Ice King be shipped?

Your bulbs are carefully packed and shipped. That way they arrive safely and fresh from the grower.
