In China it's one of the best known and most used plants: the finger-like leaves are said to hold on to positive energy and send prosperity to the people living there.

The Schefflera Compacta tree isn't hard to look after. It does like a steady temperature with a minimum of 12 degrees. In summer you can easily stand this houseplant outdoors, as long as it's in a sunny spot. The Schefflera Compacta tree prefers a bright spot, but not in direct sunlight all day. Do make sure it isn't standing in a draughty corner, because that leaves the houseplant open to mealybugs and other pests. If that happens, hose the plant down with water to wash off all the unwanted guests.
How much water does the Schefflera Compacta tree - 50cm need?
The Schefflera Compacta is easy to care for and doesn't use much water either. Slightly moist soil is best for this houseplant, although in winter the soil can dry out a little between waterings. We'd suggest checking the soil every couple of days at first to see whether it's still moist. Misting the leaves with water regularly does it good as well: it takes the dust off the leaves so sunlight reaches the houseplant more easily, and it helps prevent mealybugs and other pests.
