Product Description

The Crocus bulbs Blue-White are bulbs of crocuses in blue and white. Together they make a fresh, cool combination that stands out nicely against the grass or bare soil in early spring. The cup-shaped flowers reach a height of around 8 to 10 centimetres. Crocuses are hardy and naturalise easily, so a planting becomes fuller every year.

Size 7/8 stands for sturdy corms that each produce several flowers. They naturalise in the lawn and under trees, and also do well in a pot or planter and at the front of the border. With 30 corms you fill a planter on the patio or a spot under a tree, with 60 an edge along the border. With 120 or 240 corms you create a blue and white carpet in the lawn or under a group of trees; allow 100 to 150 per square metre. Want more colour? Then add other crocus bulbs, for example in yellow or purple. You will find more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.

When should you plant the Crocus bulbs Blue-White?

Plant the Crocus bulbs Blue-White in autumn, from mid-October to the end of November. Wait until the soil has cooled to below 10 °C; the corms then form roots without sprouting yet. In a mild winter you can carry on into December, as long as the ground is not frozen. Crocuses need cold to set flower buds, so a spring planting will not flower.

When do the Crocus bulbs Blue-White flower?

The Crocus bulbs Blue-White flower between February and April. Exactly how early depends on the weather: sunny days in February bring flowering forward, a cold spring holds it back. A group stays attractive for two to three weeks, because each corm opens a few flowers one after another. Where they are happy, they multiply on their own, so the blue and white patches grow larger every year.

Care and tips Crocus bulbs Blue-White

Set the corms 7 to 8 centimetres deep, about two to three times their own height, pointed end up and around 5 to 7 centimetres apart. Plant them in loose, irregular groups for a natural look. In grass, lift a small piece of turf, place the bulbs underneath and press it back down. Any soil that drains well is suitable. A pot or planter needs a drainage layer; among our outdoor pots and baskets you will find a matching model. Leave the narrow leaves after flowering until they turn yellow and only then mow the lawn. Scatter a little bulb fertiliser over the spot in autumn.

Water needs of the Crocus bulbs Blue-White

Crocuses planted out get enough from the rain. If the autumn after planting is very dry, water once. In pots and planters the soil dries out faster: keep it slightly moist from the moment the first green appears. Always make sure water can drain away, because standing water makes the corms rot.

Light needs of the Crocus bulbs Blue-White

A sunny spot is ideal for the Crocus bulbs Blue-White. In sunlight the flowers open wide; in grey weather they stay closed. Under trees that only come into leaf after flowering, they also get enough light.

Are the Crocus bulbs Blue-White toxic?

The Crocus bulbs Blue-White are mildly toxic if ingested, particularly the corms. Keep them out of reach of pets and young children, and wear gloves when planting if you have sensitive skin.

How will my Crocus bulbs Blue-White be shipped?

Your bulbs are carefully packed and shipped. That way they arrive safely and fresh from the grower.
