How do you care for a Philodendron?
The Philodendron is a reasonably easy plant to look after. Here are a few basic tips!
- Watering: keep the soil slightly moist, but don't let the roots sit in wet soil. In winter the soil can dry out a little more between waterings.
- Position: put your Philodendron somewhere with plenty of daylight, but out of direct sun. A temperature between 15 and 25 degrees is ideal.
- Pruning and repotting: remove dead or unwanted leaves with clean scissors. Repot in spring by preference, roughly once every two years.
- Feeding: during the growing season (spring and summer) give houseplant food regularly, but never more than the recommended amount.
Can I take cuttings from a Philodendron?
Many Philodendron species are easy to propagate from a stem with an aerial root. Let the cutting root in water or straight in soil.
How often should I turn my Philodendron?
Turn the plant regularly so every side gets the same amount of light and the plant keeps growing nice and straight. A quarter turn once a week is enough. In summer the plant grows faster, so you can turn it twice a week then.
