We're not all blessed with green fingers, but secretly we do love having a bit more green around the house. Living green, to be clear. The plants on this list are our answer for the serial plant neglecters among us, and they save plenty of other plants from a long, thirsty ordeal. These hard-to-kill green ones genuinely don't mind being forgotten now and then.

These so-called hard-to-kill plants are easy to care for, need very little maintenance and are just about indestructible. You would have to try really hard to finish one of them off. 1. Dracaena

The Dracaena is one of the easiest plants in our range. It is tough as old boots and will happily stand almost anywhere. The Dracaena needs remarkably little care and doesn't mind being forgotten once in a while, which also makes it the ideal office plant. No more squabbling with colleagues about whose turn it is to water everything. The Dracaena likes a shady spot without direct sunlight. As for water, it only needs a splash once every 3 to 6 weeks. 2. Sansevieria

The Sansevieria is better known in English as the snake plant, and it is a houseplant you can really only kill by giving it too much water. The Sansevieria genuinely doesn't mind where it stands. In the sun, in the shade, it takes it all in its stride. Just go easy with the watering can, because this is not a thirsty type. When in doubt, skip a watering.

3. Calathea

The Calathea, also known as the prayer plant, comes in all sorts of shapes and sizes. It folds its leaves up in the evening and unfolds them again in the morning light. Those movements make the plant feel genuinely alive, and the effect is striking. On top of that, the Calathea is an easy plant. 4. Beaucarnea

'All the way from Mexico!' This magnificent elephant's foot can stand in full sun. What an easy-going thing it is, the Beaucarnea. The plant stores water in its trunk, so it can keep itself supplied with moisture for a long time. Give it a sunny spot and it will settle in quickly.

5. Olive tree

Got a spare spot in the garden? Then an olive tree is a lovely idea. The olive tree loves a sunny position and is hardy down to minus 17 degrees Celsius. With the right care, an olive tree can live for decades.
