Product Description
The Grape hyacinth bulbs White Magic are bulbs of a white-flowering grape hyacinth, with dense clusters of small, rounded bells that look like miniature grapes. The plants grow to about 15 centimetres tall and have narrow, grass-like leaves. They are strong, hardy little bulbs.
The bulbs are size 6/7. They suit the front of the border, the edge of a path, pots and containers, and the lawn or the ground under trees, where they naturalise by themselves. With 50 bulbs you fill a few pots or a small spot at the front of the border, with 100 bulbs a ribbon along the path. With 200 or 400 bulbs you create a white strip in the grass or a carpet under your trees; allow 100 to 150 bulbs per square metre. Combine them with other naturalising bulbs, such as blue grape hyacinths, for a lovely contrast. You will find more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.
When should you plant the Grape hyacinth bulbs White Magic?
Plant the Grape hyacinth bulbs White Magic in autumn, ideally between mid-October and the end of November. By then the soil has cooled to below 10 °C, so the bulbs can quietly put down roots before winter sets in. If it is not freezing yet, you can carry on into December. A cold period is needed to trigger flowering, so planting in spring makes no sense.
When do the Grape hyacinth bulbs White Magic flower?
The Grape hyacinth bulbs White Magic flower in March and April. Each cluster stays attractive for around two to three weeks. In a pot in a sheltered, sunny spot the first clusters appear earlier; after a cold spring they take a little more time. In a place they like, the bulbs form offsets and seed, so the group grows larger every year.
Care and tips Grape hyacinth bulbs White Magic
Plant a bulb of this size about 7 to 8 centimetres deep, roughly two to three times the height of the bulb, and about 5 centimetres apart. Grape hyacinths are not fussy, as long as the soil does not stay wet for long periods. For pots and containers, choose a model with a hole in the base and put a layer of gravel at the bottom; among our outdoor pots and baskets you will find a suitable size. After flowering, let the foliage turn yellow by itself; in the lawn, only mow after that. Feeding is rarely necessary; on poor soil a handful of bulb fertiliser in spring is enough.
Water needs of the Grape hyacinth bulbs White Magic
In the garden, rainwater is usually enough. If the autumn after planting is very dry, water thoroughly once so the bulbs can root. In pots, keep the soil slightly moist in spring. Water left standing in the saucer makes the bulbs rot, so pour it away. In summer the bulbs are dormant and actually prefer dry soil.
Light needs of the Grape hyacinth bulbs White Magic
A spot in the sun suits these grape hyacinths best. There the clusters stay compact and the bells open well. They also do well under deciduous trees, because plenty of light still reaches the ground in March and April before the leaves come out.
Are the Grape hyacinth bulbs White Magic toxic?
The Grape hyacinth bulbs White Magic are mildly toxic if ingested, especially the bulbs themselves. Keep them out of reach of pets and young children.
How will my Grape hyacinth bulbs White Magic be shipped?
Your bulbs are carefully packed and shipped. That way they arrive safely and fresh from the grower.
