Product Description

The Daffodil bulbs mix are bulbs of a varied mix of garden daffodils in shades of white, yellow, apricot, salmon and orange, complemented by bicoloured flowers. They grow to about 35 to 45 centimetres tall. Daffodils are strong, hardy bulbs that return every year and are usually left alone by mice and rabbits.

The bulbs are size 10/12. You can place them in the border, along the path, in pots on the patio or loosely in the grass, where they can naturalise. With 40 bulbs you fill a few large pots or a generous spot in the border, with 80 bulbs a strip along the path. With 160 or 320 bulbs you plant a whole bed or let a stretch of lawn naturalise; allow 30 to 50 bulbs per square metre. Combine them with other daffodil bulbs, such as an early or a late variety, so the display lasts longer. You will find more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.

When should you plant the Daffodil bulbs mix?

Plant the Daffodil bulbs mix from mid-October to the end of November, as soon as the soil has cooled to below 10 °C. If it is not freezing yet, you can still plant in December. The bulbs need to go through a cold winter in order to flower, so planting in spring makes no sense.

When do the Daffodil bulbs mix flower?

The Daffodil bulbs mix flower in March and April. Because the mix contains different daffodils, not all flowers open at once and the display lasts several weeks in total. A single flower stays attractive for about ten days to two weeks. In a pot in a sheltered, warm spot they start a little earlier, after a cold winter somewhat later. Daffodils return year after year and slowly spread in grass.

Care and tips Daffodil bulbs mix

Set the bulbs nose up at a depth of about 15 centimetres, with 10 to 15 centimetres between them. Light, well-drained soil is ideal; improve heavy clay with some sand or compost. If you choose a pot, first put a layer of gravel or clay pebbles at the bottom so excess water can drain away; among our outdoor pots and baskets you will find a suitable size. After flowering, cut off the spent flowers but leave the foliage for at least six weeks. Only mow naturalised daffodils in the grass once the leaves have turned yellow. Scatter some bulb fertiliser in early spring for rich flowering. Stand cut daffodils in water on their own for a few hours first, because their sap makes other flowers in the vase wilt sooner.

Water needs of the Daffodil bulbs mix

Daffodils in the garden usually manage on rainfall. If the autumn after planting is very dry, give them one thorough watering. Bulbs in a pot dry out faster: water about once a week from the moment the first shoots appear. Make sure the soil never stays wet for long, otherwise the bulbs will rot.

Light needs of the Daffodil bulbs mix

A sunny spot suits these daffodils best. With plenty of light the stems stay firm and the bulbs build up enough reserves for the following year. They also tolerate light shade, but flower a little less profusely there.

Are the Daffodil bulbs mix toxic?

The Daffodil bulbs mix are toxic if ingested, especially the bulb. Keep them out of reach of pets and young children. The sap can irritate the skin, so wear garden gloves when planting and when cutting flowers.

How will my Daffodil bulbs mix be shipped?

Your bulbs are carefully packed and shipped. That way they arrive safely and fresh from the grower.
