Product Description
The Daffodil bulbs Botanical White mix are bulbs of white botanical daffodils with delicate, snow-white flowers. Botanical daffodils are close to the wild species: they are more graceful than the large garden daffodils and grow to around 30 to 40 centimetres tall. They are hardy, return every year and can naturalise in grass.
The bulbs are size 10/12. Plant them in the border, in window boxes and pots or loosely in the lawn, where they spread over the years. With 30 bulbs you fill a few pots or a spot in the border, with 60 bulbs a good-sized group. With 120 or 240 bulbs you can plant a whole bed or let a piece of lawn or a strip beneath the shrubs naturalise; allow 30 to 50 bulbs per square metre. Combine them with other daffodil bulbs that flower at the same time, such as yellow varieties. You will find more greenery for outdoors among our outdoor plants.
When should you plant the Daffodil bulbs Botanical White mix?
The best time to plant the Daffodil bulbs Botanical White mix is from mid-October to the end of November, once the soil has cooled to below 10 °C. Daffodils already form plenty of roots in autumn, so the earlier within that period, the better. As long as it is not freezing, you can plant until December. The bulbs need the winter cold to flower, so do not plant them in spring.
When do the Daffodil bulbs Botanical White mix flower?
The Daffodil bulbs Botanical White mix flower in March and April. Each flower stays beautiful for about two weeks. In a pot in a sheltered, sunny spot they flower earlier, after a cold spring a little later. They are lovely in the vase too, but keep them separate for a night first: the sap from the stems shortens the vase life of other flowers. Daffodils return every year and form new bulblets, so the group becomes fuller and fuller.
Care and tips Daffodil bulbs Botanical White mix
Plant the bulbs pointed end up, about 10 to 12 centimetres deep and 8 to 10 centimetres apart. They grow in any well-drained garden soil; in wet soil a handful of sand in the planting hole helps. In a pot, provide a drainage layer of gravel or clay pebbles; among our outdoor pots and baskets you will find a suitable model. After flowering, only cut off the spent flowers and leave the foliage for about six weeks until it turns yellow. So only mow the grass around naturalised daffodils after that. Feeding is usually not necessary; in a pot, give some bulb fertiliser in spring.
Water needs of the Daffodil bulbs Botanical White mix
Daffodils in open ground get enough from the rain. Only if the autumn is very dry should you water after planting. In a pot, water about once a week from the moment the leaves appear. Make sure the pot drains well, because bulbs in wet soil will rot.
Light needs of the Daffodil bulbs Botanical White mix
Give them a sunny spot; that is where they flower most abundantly and the stems stay sturdy. They also do well under deciduous shrubs and trees, because there is still plenty of light there in early spring.
Are the Daffodil bulbs Botanical White mix toxic?
The Daffodil bulbs Botanical White mix are toxic if ingested, the bulb most of all. Keep them out of reach of pets and young children. The sap can irritate the skin, so wear garden gloves when planting and when cutting flowers.
How will my Daffodil bulbs Botanical White mix be shipped?
