The Nolina Nelsonii originally comes from the mountain regions of Mexico. That makes it strong and drought-tolerant. This Nolina of 130 cm forms a broad, round crown of sturdy, blue-grey leaves on a short trunk. That special leaf colour stands out straight away in a gravel garden or a large planter. A real plant with character.
It is easy to look after and already looks mature. It adds structure and colour all year round. Put it with other Mediterranean plants for a sunny, southern look, or use it as a solitary plant in a sleek border. You can make a great combination with the Dasylirion Longissimum. The Nolina Nelsonii is easy to maintain. Plant it in well-draining, sandy soil or a large pot with a drainage layer. For the patio, you will find a roomy pot that suits its size among our outdoor pots and baskets. Always make sure there is a drainage hole, so excess water can escape. In spring and summer you can give it an extra boost with an organic fertiliser such as Pokon Organic Garden Fertiliser.
Remove old leaves at the bottom now and then for a neat appearance. Wear sturdy gloves when doing so, because the leaf edges are sharp. In winter the plant rests and needs no feeding. Keep the soil as dry as possible then: a dry Nolina copes with cold better than a wet one. If it is in a pot, place the pot on pot feet so water can drain away properly.
